Conor McGregor's UFC Comeback Postponed, Misses Historic White House Event
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has officially confirmed the historic White House fight card, but former two-division champion Conor McGregor will not be part of the lineup. This development has left many fans surprised and disappointed, as McGregor had been strongly linked to headline the event against Michael Chandler on June 14.
White House Card Lineup Revealed Without McGregor
When the promotion revealed the full fight card on Saturday night, the Irish superstar's name was notably absent. Instead, the main event will feature Ilia Topuria defending the UFC lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje. The card will also include a heavyweight clash between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane for the interim title.
While Michael Chandler secured a place on the event's undercard against Mauricio Ruffy, McGregor has once again been left waiting for his long-anticipated comeback fight. The matchup between McGregor and Chandler had been widely discussed for months, making the omission particularly unexpected.
McGregor's Continued Push for Return
Despite missing out on the historic White House card, Conor McGregor has made it clear that he remains eager to fight again. There may still be hope for his return later this year, as the promotion is reportedly considering the International Fight Week card on July 11 as a possible date for his first fight in nearly five years.
The 36-year-old fighter reacted quickly to events at UFC 326, where Charles Oliveira defeated Max Holloway to claim the BMF title. McGregor suggested he would be open to facing Oliveira in the future, stating he would happily take on the Brazilian star if the opportunity arose.
He wrote on social media, "If they want I'll sp**k charlie", indicating his willingness to compete against the newly crowned champion.
Ongoing Discussions and Frustrations
Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White confirmed to reporters during a press conference that discussions with Conor McGregor are still ongoing. The promotion is reportedly exploring options for the Irish superstar to headline another major event once a deal is finalized.
McGregor recently appeared on the Smash Cast podcast hosted by Chael Sonnen, where he spoke about his frustration with the delay in confirming his return bout. He explained that he believed the UFC White House fight card was going to be the stage for his comeback, based on plans he had heard about involving him facing Michael Chandler.
The former champion expressed that he felt the idea had strong backing from people involved in organizing the event, making the final lineup announcement particularly disappointing for him and his fans.
As the UFC moves forward with its historic White House event, all eyes remain on when and where Conor McGregor will finally make his long-awaited return to the octagon after nearly five years away from competition.
