Nagpur Mayor Promises Sports Development at Bhau Kane Awards

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is committed to the comprehensive development of players and sports in the city, stated Mayor Neeta Thakare. She was addressing the third Bhau Kane memorial sports awards ceremony, jointly organized by Navmaharashtra Krida Mandal (NMKM) and Chaitanya Sports, Yoga and Cultural Foundation. The event took place at the Shikshak Sahakari Bank hall in Mahal on Thursday.

Lifetime Achievement Award for Boxing Coach

Senior boxing coach Ganesh Purohit was honored with the lifetime achievement award, which included a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a memento. Expressing his gratitude, Purohit said, "This is a moment of joy and pride for me. When a coach is felicitated, the entire society is felicitated. It was Bhau himself who taught us to work selflessly without expecting any award."

Other Awardees and Dignitaries

Mahendra Patil and Shamsher Khan were recognized with the best kho-kho and athletics coach awards, respectively. Each award carried a cash prize of Rs 21,000 and a memento. Renowned orthopaedic specialist Dr. Anil Golhar, NMKM president Dhananjay Kane, and secretary Prashant Jagtap were present on the occasion. Charulata Naigaonkar introduced the guests, while Vishakha Joshi introduced Purohit. Dr. Neelima Pohane and Yogesh Ghughuskar introduced Shamsher Khan and Mahendra Patil, respectively. Shirish Bhagat delivered the introductory address, Naresh Shelke conducted the proceedings, and Manoj Balpande proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of sports enthusiasts, coaches, and players attended the event.
