A special cycling expedition, undertaken by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to promote patriotism and retrace a historic military march, received a ceremonial welcome in the historic city of Jhansi this Wednesday. The 14-member team is on an ambitious journey from Pune to New Delhi, covering a staggering total distance of 1,680 kilometers.
Historic Journey Inspired by Peshwa's March
Named 'Shaurya Ke Kadam Kranti Ki Ore', the cyclothon is not just a test of endurance but a moving tribute to history. According to Army officials, the core objective is to retrace the route of the legendary Peshwa Bajirao's 1736–37 march towards Delhi. Through this arduous journey, the cadets are spreading a powerful message of national unity, integrity, and patriotism across the heart of India.
The Grueling Route and Daily Challenge
The expedition is being led by Brigadier Sachin Gawli, the Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters in Amravati. The contingent kicked off their monumental ride from Pune on December 24. Their path has taken them through several key towns and cities, including Dhule, Mhow, Vidisha, Sagar, and Lalitpur, before their arrival in Jhansi. The cyclists are pushing their limits, covering an average of 70 kilometers every day.
In Jhansi, the tired but determined team was formally received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Tiger Division. The event's local coordination was managed by the 56 UP Battalion NCC based in Jhansi.
Grand Finale Awaits at Republic Day Celebrations
The cycling team is scheduled to pedal into the national capital, New Delhi, on January 16. However, the culmination of their remarkable effort will be a highlight of the Republic Day festivities. The cyclothon will be formally flagged in by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the prestigious NCC PM Rally. This grand event is set to take place on January 27 at the NCC Parade ground, adding a unique and inspiring chapter to the Republic Day celebrations.
This expedition, organized by the NCC Directorate Maharashtra, stands as a powerful symbol of youth energy channeled towards remembering India's valiant history and reinforcing the values that bind the nation together.
