Pepe Martí secures maiden Formula E podium in Monaco

Pepe Martí secured his first Formula E podium in just his ninth race, and in spectacular fashion. The Spaniard initially finished fourth on day one of the Monaco E-Prix, behind his Cupra Kiro team-mate Dan Ticktum, but was later promoted to third after a post-race penalty for Ticktum, earning his maiden podium finish. Martí has since shared a video reflecting on the race, while Cupra Kiro Team Principal Russell O’Hagan praised his composure, intelligence and confidence, saying those qualities helped him achieve the result.

Cupra Kiro praises Pepe Martí’s intelligence and confidence

Cupra Kiro Team Principal Russell O’Hagan said he was immensely proud of Pepe Martí and described the podium as the result of his consistent performances throughout the season. He stated, “Fighting from 15th to the podium in Monaco takes composure, intelligence and confidence, and since joining the team, he’s shown all three in abundance. It always felt like a matter of not if, but when, he would finish on the podium, and to do it here in Monaco is a fantastic achievement.”

He added, “Ever since last season, Monaco has felt like a special circuit for us because it was the first place where we truly showed our potential as a team, so there was a lot of anticipation coming into the weekend. For Pepe, today represents a very special moment. Pepe has responded to every challenge so far this season, and I’m confident he’ll bounce back in Sanya.”

Pepe Martí also shared a video in which he spoke emotionally while proudly holding his trophy. He said, “P3 - it’s totally incredible. It’s a great result coming from P15. The truth is that in qualifying this morning, I didn’t feel good with the tyres and being able to recover like this, especially here in Monaco, is very special. We were in P5 with two laps to go and we had some good luck there, it’s also part of the sport. Super happy with the result. This is going home with me.”

Martí had earlier said shortly after the race, “A pole position for Dan and then I’ve been able to move up from 15th all the way to third, so it’s fantastic. I’m still a bit shocked because I didn’t expect it. I crossed the line in fourth and I was really happy with it, so to be here now is a bit of a dream.”
