Pune's Army Sports Institute wins 9 medals at World Boxing Cup

In an extraordinary display of boxing prowess, Pune's Army Sports Institute has created history at the World Boxing Cup 2025, achieving a perfect medal conversion rate with all nine participating boxers securing podium finishes.

Historic Medal Haul for Indian Boxing

The recently concluded World Boxing Cup 2025 in New Delhi witnessed an unprecedented achievement by Indian boxers from the Army Sports Institute. From November 14 to 20, the ASI contingent delivered what the Army described as an "exceptional performance" that reaffirmed the institute's position as a premier center for elite sporting excellence.

All nine ASI boxers who competed in the international tournament finished on the podium, achieving a remarkable hundred percent medal-conversion rate. The contingent secured a total of three gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals, bringing immense pride to the Indian Army and the nation.

Gold Medal Champions and Their Achievements

The gold medal winners demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in their respective weight categories. Havildar Arundhati dominated the 70-kilogram category, while Naib Subedar Jaismine showcased her excellence in the 57-kilogram division. Havildar Sachin completed the golden trio with his victory in the 60-kilogram category.

According to the official Army statement, the silver and bronze medalists displayed exemplary discipline, unwavering fighting spirit, and a strong commitment to excellence, contributing to what amounted to a clean sweep of the medal tally for the Pune-based institute.

The ASI Legacy and Training Excellence

The Army attributed this remarkable achievement to the institute's world-class training ecosystem, scientific athlete management, and the dedicated efforts of its coaches, support staff, and soldiers. Established in July 2001 as part of the Army's Mission Olympics programme, the Army Sports Institute in Pune has consistently produced international medal winners across multiple sports disciplines.

The institute conducts specialized training in archery, athletics, boxing, diving, wrestling, fencing, and weightlifting. Its comprehensive approach to athlete development includes the Boys' Sports Company programme, launched in January 2006, which identifies talent in the 8-14 age group through an open selection process across India.

More recently, the Army headquarters approved a proposal to establish an Army Girls Sports Company in February 2023, with admissions starting in March 2024, expanding the institute's capacity to nurture sporting talent.

The Army congratulated all medal winners and reiterated its commitment to nurturing world-class athletes who bring honor to the nation on global sporting platforms, demonstrating the continued success of its Mission Olympics initiative.
