Patiala: Cabinet ministers Barinder Kumar Goyal and Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday dedicated newly constructed sports grounds to the public in separate villages of Sangrur district.

Cheema inaugurated a Rs 1.6-crore modern sports ground at Shadihari village in Dirba constituency, while Goyal dedicated a newly constructed sports ground, built at a cost of Rs 62 lakh, to the public in Raidharana village.

The ministers said the Punjab government was making sustained efforts to promote sports and steer youth away from drugs, with a focus on upgrading sports infrastructure in rural areas to help them channel their energy positively. Addressing the gathering, Cheema said the completion of the stadium would provide local players opportunities for high-level training and inspire the younger generation to excel in sports. He appealed to the villagers to collectively maintain the stadium and encouraged youth to actively participate in sports.
