Andy Reid Dismisses Travis Kelce Wedding Distraction as Chiefs Minicamp Continues
Reid Dismisses Kelce Wedding Distraction at Chiefs Camp

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the elephant in the room on Thursday, June 11, as reporters pressed him on whether Travis Kelce's upcoming wedding to Taylor Swift was becoming a distraction during mandatory minicamp. Reid was brief, borderline secretive about the wedding itself, but had nothing but praise for his tight end's work on the field. With the 2026-27 NFL season approaching, Kelce is now entering his 14th year in the league and by all accounts, his head is firmly in the game.

Is Travis Kelce distracted by his wedding with Taylor Swift?

Short answer from Andy Reid: no.

When a reporter asked the 68-year-old coach about Kelce's progress and whether he planned to attend the wedding, Reid shut down the personal side of the conversation almost instantly. "Can't talk about it," he said. "Can't talk about it." He didn't elaborate further -- and clearly had no intention to.

But when the topic shifted to football, Reid was notably warmer. "Listen, he's been here most of the offseason, if not the whole offseason," the coach said. "He's been around and it's good to have him here." He added that Kelce completed the mandatory camp with strong effort: "He did the mandatory camp and did a nice job there so it's good to have him back in and rolling. He's very excited. You see no distractions with that and the wedding."

For a player marrying one of the most famous people on the planet, that kind of feedback from his coach carries weight. Kelce, who recently signed a new deal to remain in Kansas City, is not exactly operating in a low-pressure environment. The Chiefs had an average run last season by their standards, and expectations this year are predictably high. The last thing the team needs is their star tight end mentally checked out during the summer. Reid's comments suggest that is simply not the case.

Did Travis Kelce skip Taylor Swift's NBA Finals appearance for Chiefs practice?

Yes, and it was not a one-off.

While Taylor Swift made headlines at Madison Square Garden during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, attending the New York Knicks' dramatic comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs with friends Alana and Este Haim, Kelce was nowhere near the venue. The Chiefs' official Instagram later explained why -- a photo from their mandatory minicamp showed Kelce mid-session, meeting his NFL obligations.

It was the same situation when Swift attended the Toy Story 5 premiere. Kelce skipped that too, for the same reason.

The pattern here is telling. Wedding buzz or not, Kelce has been consistently showing up to put in the work while Swift handles the high-profile social calendar. Reid himself seemed almost amused by the dynamic when speaking on 96.5 The Fan in May. "If it's like when I got married, my wife did everything so I just kind of followed her lead on it and showed up, right?" he said. Then, with a grin in his voice: "Maybe he's doing more, but he looks like he's pretty focused in on this job here, too."

Reid also teased, during that same radio appearance, that he likely has a wedding invitation waiting for him -- and that he plans to attend if his tuxedo still fits.
