Sakshi Chaudhary Stuns World Champion Minakshi Hooda

PATIALA: Two-time youth world gold medallist Sakshi Chaudhary, representing the Army, delivered a commanding performance to blank reigning world champion Minakshi Hooda in the ongoing boxing selection trials at NS NIS here on Friday, securing her place in the Indian contingent for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Dominant Performance in 51kg Category

Competing in the highly competitive women's 51kg category, Sakshi made a major statement with her performance, winning against Minakshi by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final of her weight division. The 51kg class has long been associated with India's leading boxer Nikhat Zareen, making Sakshi's rise even more significant in Indian women's boxing.

Inspiring Victory

In the bout against Minakshi, Haryana's Sakshi produced an inspiring performance, relying on her precise left punches, nimble footwork, and reach to overcome a strong and equally attacking opponent. She will now represent India at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.

Journey into Boxing

Interestingly, Sakshi's journey into boxing began after being inspired by the performances of Indian boxers during the 2012 Summer Olympics. That inspiration eventually transformed into a dream and later into a serious sporting pursuit. Under the guidance of coach Jagdish Singh Tarar, who is also associated with Indian boxing star Vijender Singh, Sakshi steadily built her path in competitive boxing.

Impressive Resume

Over the years, the boxer from Dhanana village in Bhiwani district has built an impressive resume. She has represented India on several international stages and collected medals at elite competitions, including a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup in Astana. Her achievements also include medals at Asian and World championships at junior and youth levels.
