Dan Ticktum Dominates Madrid E-Prix Free Practice Session
In a display of consistent speed, Dan Ticktum has once again proven his prowess in Formula E free practice sessions. The Cupra Kiro driver clocked the fastest time during FP1 on the opening day of the Madrid E-Prix at Spain's Circuito del Jarama. This achievement marks his third top finish in a free practice session this season, solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor in the electric racing series.
Impressive Performance and Championship Implications
Ticktum set a blistering time of 1 minute 29.403 seconds on Friday, demonstrating exceptional control and pace on the challenging circuit. Following his success, the driver took to social media with a lighthearted post, sharing a picture of himself in casual wear and captioning it: "Do I spy... the fastest driver of the day." This victory adds to his previous accomplishments, where he topped FP2 and finished third in FP3 during the Jeddah event last month, and also led FP1 in Miami back in January.
Close behind Ticktum was Mahindra Racing's Nyck de Vries, who secured second place despite encountering difficulties during the session. De Vries suffered a crash at the chicane but managed to return to the pits and complete his run. This result provides a significant boost for the driver, who has been striving to overcome challenges and make a strong comeback in the championship standings.
Competitive Field and Top Ten Finishers
The session saw intense competition among the grid, with DS Penske's Maximilian Gunther claiming third position. He was followed by current championship leader Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche, who holds 68 points in the Formula E Drivers' Standings. The top five was rounded out by Taylor Barnard of DS Penske, while Jean-Eric Vergne took sixth place.
Further down the order, Mahindra Racing's Edoardo Mortara finished seventh, maintaining his position as second in the Drivers' Standings, just six points behind Wehrlein. His Porsche teammate Nico Muller secured eighth, and Andretti drivers Felipe Drugovich and Nick Cassidy completed the top ten in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
