TOISA 2025 Celebrates India's Sporting Excellence with Star-Studded Awards
The Times of India Sports Awards 2025, now in its eighth edition, brought together the nation's premier athletes, breakthrough performers, and inspirational achievers for a grand celebration of Indian sports. This prestigious event highlighted the remarkable achievements from January 1 to December 31, 2025, showcasing how Indian sports organizations have expanded their influence on the global stage. The ceremony served as a powerful testament to India's growing sporting depth, consistency, and ambition, honoring not just the victories but the relentless journey that continues to shape the country's athletic future.
Top Honors for Smriti Mandhana and Samrat Rana
In a highlight of the evening, Smriti Mandhana was awarded the Sportsperson of the Year in the women's category. Mandhana received this accolade for delivering exceptional performances throughout the season, consistently leading her team to victory in every match. Her stellar contributions have solidified her status as one of India's most formidable cricketers.
Meanwhile, Samrat Rana claimed the top award in the male category after making history by winning the world championship in 10m air pistol shooting. This victory established him as India's first world champion in this discipline, marking a significant milestone for Indian shooting sports and inspiring a new generation of athletes.
Yogi Adityanath's Vision for Grassroots Sports Development
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Yogi Adityanath emphasized the critical importance of building a robust sporting foundation across Uttar Pradesh and the nation. He outlined ambitious plans to ensure every district becomes a hub of sporting activity, with accessible facilities, coaching, and opportunities for all.
"We are working diligently to create a seamless pathway for athletes, from village-level competitions to international platforms," Adityanath stated. He highlighted the progress made over the past 11–12 years, noting, "A vibrant sports culture has developed across the country, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since 2017, we have actively promoted this vision in Uttar Pradesh."
Concluding his speech, Adityanath thanked The Times of India Group for organizing the event, saying, "On behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, I welcome all attendees and express gratitude for this wonderful platform that recognizes excellence and motivates the next generation of champions."
Recognizing Standout Contributors Across Sports
The awards ceremony honored numerous standout contributors to Indian sports across more than 45 categories. Amol Muzumdar was named Coach of the Year for guiding the women's cricket team to a historic ICC ODI World Cup triumph, while Subhash Rana received the Para Coach of the Year award for his exceptional work with para-athletes.
In cricket, Shubman Gill and Deepti Sharma were honored as Cricketers of the Year, reflecting their outstanding performances. Track and field stars Neeraj Chopra and Rupal Chaudhary also took top accolades, underscoring India's rising dominance in athletics.
