Trichy Corp Develops Multi-Sports Turf on MLCP Terrace

Trichy corporation has developed a new artificial multi-sports turf on the terrace of the multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility on West Boulevard Road. A private agency has been entrusted with monetizing the facility, while students from corporation schools will be allowed to use the turf for free.

Turf Specifications and Features

The turf, spread over 7,200 square feet, is fenced on all sides. Officials have confirmed that floodlights have been installed to enable users to play cricket and football even during nighttime hours.

Background of the MLCP

The MLCP was originally constructed to provide parking for cars and two-wheelers, but it did not achieve the desired solution as on-street parking continues to choke arterial roads. Consequently, the corporation leased a portion of the MLCP's terrace to Trichy-based E2M Games and Turfs Private Limited.

Agreement and Monetization

The private agency has developed the turf at its own expense, costing 40 lakh rupees. The local body has provided only the space and a portion of the MLCP for vehicle parking for users. Based on a clause introduced in the agreement to monetize the corporation's property, the private agency has agreed to allow students from corporation schools and city-based achievers to use the turf for free or at a concessional price, as per an official.

Benefits for Corporation Schools

Since many corporation schools lack dedicated playgrounds, the school managements will be encouraged to opt for the turf to host sports events. For other users, the turf will be available at a rate of 900 rupees per hour. The local body stated that the turf is expected to find takers among the young population in congested residential areas.
