The city of Vadodara is poised for an extraordinary display of athleticism and community spirit this Sunday as it hosts the MG Vadodara International Marathon. With a staggering 1.11 lakh runners registered, the event promises to transform the streets into a vibrant hub of fitness, unity, and environmental consciousness.

Marathon authorities have confirmed that this annual spectacle has attracted participants from across India and beyond, making it one of the largest running events in the region. Tejal Amin, Chairperson of the Vadodara Marathon, emphasized the event's educational mission, stating, "We are committed to creating awareness about sustainable development among one lakh children in Vadodara's schools, fostering a greener future through sports."
Diverse Race Categories and Special Initiatives
The marathon features a comprehensive lineup of races designed to cater to all fitness levels:
- Full Marathon (42km): Over 340 runners will test their endurance in this challenging category.
- Half Marathon (21km): Approximately 1,975 participants are set to compete in this popular distance.
- 10km Run: A massive 9,000 runners will take part in this accessible yet competitive race.
In addition to these standard categories, the event includes special runs that highlight inclusivity and community engagement:
- Heritage Fun Run: A celebratory run that showcases Vadodara's rich cultural legacy.
- Divyang Paralympic Run: Dedicated to athletes with disabilities, promoting accessibility in sports.
- Gazra Run: Featuring over 150 members of the LGBTQIA community, aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles within the community. Radhikaraje Gaekwad, a member of the Gaekwad royal family, noted, "We want to promote wellness among community members and plan to invite participants from across the country next year."
- Jawan Run: A new addition this year, involving personnel from the Indian Army, police, emergency services, and the Indian Air Force, honoring their service and dedication.
Logistics and Support for Participants
The marathon will be flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi from the Navlakhi Compound on Sunday morning. Organizers have ensured robust support systems along the race route to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for all runners.
Sameer Khera, Co-Chairperson of the Vadodara Marathon, highlighted the arrangements, saying, "Runners will have access to comprehensive assistance, including medical booths and recovery zones, to ensure their well-being throughout the event."
