Punjab to Host National Badminton Championship After 40-Year Gap

In a significant development for sports in the region, Punjab is poised to host a national-level badminton championship after a hiatus of four decades. The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has officially allotted the 38th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship to the state, with the event scheduled to take place in Jalandhar.

Event Details and Historical Context

According to Ritin Khanna, honorary secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, the championship will be held from December 9 to 12 at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium in Jalandhar. This marks a momentous occasion, as the last national badminton championship in Punjab was held in 1987, also in Jalandhar, making this a long-awaited return after 40 years.

Khanna elaborated that approximately 350 players from 33 states and Union Territories are expected to participate in the competition. The event will feature a total cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, which will be awarded to the winners, adding an extra layer of excitement and motivation for the young athletes.
