Chandigarh: At least 22 passengers sustained injuries after a Volvo tourist bus overturned following a collision with a truck at the Chhat traffic light in Zirakpur during the early hours of Friday. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident.

Details of the Accident

The bus, which was traveling from Manali to Delhi with approximately 45 passengers on board, was struck by a truck reportedly heading to Baddi around 3:30 am. The impact caused the bus to overturn on the road, leaving several passengers trapped inside.

Rescue and Medical Response

Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and alerted the authorities. Zirakpur police and ambulances arrived shortly afterward, and with the help of bystanders, they successfully rescued the trapped passengers. Among the injured, five were taken to Derabassi civil hospital, while 17 were admitted to GMCH-32. Police confirmed that all injured individuals were discharged after receiving first aid.

Traffic Disruption and Investigation

The accident caused a significant traffic jam on the Zirakpur–Patiala highway for some time. A crane was later deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow. The truck driver, identified as Lallan Yadav, a native of Gorakhpur, claimed that the bus hit his vehicle from the side, leading to the overturn. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the highway to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
