Brazil Manager Ancelotti Promises 'Carnival' Style Football for FIFA World Cup
Brasilia, Brazil – In a bold declaration ahead of the FIFA World Cup, Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has vowed that his team will showcase a 'carnival' style of football on the pitch. Speaking in an interview, Ancelotti emphasized that the DNA of the Brazilian national squad is rooted in talent, energy, and joy, and he aims to blend these elements with precise organization for the upcoming tournament.
Brazil's Quest for Glory After 2002 Triumph
As five-time champions, Brazil has not clinched the World Cup since their victory in 2002, hosted by Japan and South Korea. In the subsequent editions, the team has faced challenges in meeting its lofty standards, with quarterfinal appearances in 2006, 2010, 2018, and 2022, and a fourth-place finish in 2014. While these results are respectable for many nations, they fall short of expectations given Brazil's immense talent pool and football-obsessed culture.
Ancelotti expressed confidence in his side's attacking prowess, promising to deliver the entertaining football that Brazil is renowned for. However, he also highlighted concerns regarding the lack of depth in traditional full-back positions, noting that this area requires strategic adjustments.
Ancelotti's Tactical Vision Inspired by Brazilian Culture
During an interview on SBT, as reported by Goal.com, Ancelotti revealed how immersing himself in Brazilian culture has influenced his tactical approach. After participating in local festivities earlier this year, he aims to translate the vibrancy of carnival onto the football field.
"Very important is the DNA of the national team. The DNA of Brazil is talent, energy, and joy. I want to compare Brazilian football with carnival. Carnival was new to me, I understood that it has a lot of energy, joy, art, talent. And a lot of organisation. Organising all the floats, with the correct timing, all of this we have to put into the national team. Joy, energy, talent, and organization," Ancelotti stated.
Squad Selection and Tactical Adjustments
Ancelotti plans to deploy a top-heavy tactical setup with four players in attacking roles. He indicated that the final squad is nearly complete, but a few spots remain undecided, leading to "doubts" in selection. "There are four or five spots and in that sense we have many doubts. That is why I called up players I do not know very well. I want one defender, two for the midfield, and two more for the attack. The competition is very high. The luck of the national team is that the players have a lot of talent," he added.
Addressing the defensive challenges, particularly in wide areas, Ancelotti praised young Wesley for his performances at Roma and discussed potential solutions. "I have no problem putting a centre-back at full-back. The most important thing for the team is balance. If you have a winger who supports a lot, you do not need a full-back who supports as much. Eder Militao played very well against Senegal in that position, Marquinhos has also done it. In this call-up, I want to test Roger Ibanez. We can find profiles that can help the team have good balance on the field," he explained.
World Cup Group Stage and Opening Match
Brazil has been drawn into Group C for the tournament, alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. Their campaign will kick off against Morocco on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, setting the stage for Ancelotti's promised carnival of football to unfold on the global stage.
