Visakhapatnam: The Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district police, in collaboration with the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), conducted a successful raid at Sangamvalasa near coffee gardens under Munchingiput mandal. The operation led to the seizure of approximately 750 kilograms of dry cannabis valued at over Rs 37 lakh.
Details of the Raid
According to ASR district police chief Amit Bardar, the raid was executed based on credible intelligence regarding the illegal storage of cannabis. During the operation, the police team discovered 39 bags of dry cannabis, totaling 750 kilograms. The bags were found hidden in the coffee gardens. The suspects managed to flee upon noticing the enforcement personnel.
Investigation Underway
The police have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the illegal storage of the ganja. Authorities suspect that the contraband was procured from the Andhra-Odisha border and stored in the village. A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(c) and 8(c) of the NDPS Act, along with Section 106 of BNSS. A special team has been formed to track down the accused.
This seizure marks a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between local police and specialized anti-narcotics units. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
