A tragic road accident occurred on Friday on the Moodubidire–Mundkur State Highway near Jarigekatte in Karkala taluk, resulting in the death of a passenger traveling in an autorickshaw. The deceased has been identified as Srikanth.

Details of the Accident

According to police reports, the autorickshaw was being driven by Mohammed Kaif. The vehicle was proceeding from Sacheripete towards Jarigekatte with a passenger on board. The driver allegedly operated the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, leading to a collision with a car coming from the opposite direction.

The car was driven by complainant Anantha Padmanabha Acharya, a resident of Mundkur village, who was traveling from Mundkur towards Sacheripete. The impact of the collision was so severe that the autorickshaw overturned.

Injuries and Fatality

The passenger, Srikanth, sustained grievous injuries in the accident. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. However, despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries. The autorickshaw driver, Mohammed Kaif, also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Legal Action

A case has been registered at the Karkala Rural police station under sections 281, 125(a), and 106 of the BNS. The police are investigating the matter further to determine the exact cause of the accident and to ensure that appropriate legal action is taken against the responsible party.
