LUCKNOW: India’s spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule on Tuesday addressed the on-field altercation involving teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a Sri Lanka ‘A’ player. Bahutule stated that while it is difficult to ascertain what provoked the incident, the young cricketer should learn to avoid such situations in the future.
Bahutule on Vaibhav's Incident
“It was an unfortunate incident, but we don’t know how he was provoked because I know him and Vaibhav is a very composed kid. I’m sure there are experienced coaches there who will guide him,” said Bahutule, who also served as Rajasthan Royals’ spin-bowling coach in 2025 and has closely observed the RR batter’s development. He added, “Sri Lankan players should also be educated on how to behave.”
Support for Rohit Sharma
Bahutule also backed his former Mumbai Ranji teammate Rohit Sharma, whose form and fitness have been under scrutiny. “He is a champion cricketer. He is somebody who adds value to this team with his experience not only batting wise but his leadership qualities also. Rohit being in this side is very important as he is somebody who understands each game, who understands what is expected from him and from the team,” said the 53-year-old.
