Bangalore Metro Extends Services for IPL Cricket Match at Chinnaswamy Stadium

In anticipation of the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match scheduled at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced a significant extension of its operational hours. To accommodate the influx of cricket fans and ensure smooth transportation, the last train services from all terminal stations will be extended from the usual 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM on Sunday.

Detailed Schedule for Extended Metro Services

The extended timings have been meticulously planned across all metro lines to provide comprehensive coverage for commuters. On the Purple Line, the last train will depart from Whitefield (Kadugodi) at 12:30 AM and from Challaghatta at 12:45 AM. For the Green Line, the final services will leave Silk Institute and Madavara stations at 12:45 AM. The Yellow Line will see its last train departing from Bommasandra at 1:00 AM and from R V Road at 2:00 AM.

Additionally, BMRCL has specified that the last train from the central Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, will head towards all four directions at 1:30 AM. This strategic scheduling aims to facilitate easy and efficient travel for spectators returning home after the thrilling cricket encounter.

Enhanced Parking Facilities for Match Days

To further support the increased passenger traffic, BMRCL has implemented additional parking arrangements at 44 key metro stations. Notable stations include Whitefield, KR Pura, Majestic, Nagasandra, RV Road, and Central Silk Board. On match days, these parking facilities will be available at a flat rate, making it convenient for commuters to park their vehicles and use the metro.

The parking charges have been set at Rs 30 for two-wheelers and Rs 60 for cars. This fee is valid until the closure of metro services for the day, ensuring that vehicles can remain parked throughout the extended operational hours without any additional cost.

Benefits for Commuters and Cricket Enthusiasts

This initiative by BMRCL is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges on match days, reducing traffic congestion around the stadium and promoting the use of public transport. By extending metro services and providing affordable parking options, the corporation aims to enhance the overall experience for cricket fans and regular commuters alike.

The extended timings and additional facilities reflect BMRCL's commitment to adapting its services to meet the dynamic needs of Bangalore's residents, especially during major events like the IPL. This move is likely to set a precedent for future large-scale gatherings in the city, ensuring that public transportation remains reliable and accessible.
