Bangladesh beat Australia by 86 runs in first ODI since 2005

Bangladesh registered a historic 86-run victory over Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series, played in Dhaka on June 9. This win marks Bangladesh's first ODI triumph over Australia since 2005.

Electing to bat first after losing the toss, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 284 for 8 in 50 overs. The innings was built around a solid 96-run partnership for the second wicket between Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Tanzid scored a brisk 54 off 44 balls, while Shanto contributed a steady 67 off 86 deliveries.

However, the standout performance came from all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, who remained unbeaten on 86 off just 70 balls, smashing seven boundaries and three sixes. His knock, along with late contributions from Towhid Hridoy (31) and Taskin Ahmed (20), propelled Bangladesh past the 280-mark.

Chasing 285, Australia struggled against the pace and accuracy of young quick Nahid Rana, who claimed 4 for 41 in his 10 overs. Cameron Green fought valiantly with an unbeaten 52 off 66 balls, and Alex Carey added 47, but the required run rate kept climbing. Mosaddek Hossain also contributed with the ball, taking 2 for 37, while left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman claimed 2 for 24.

Australia were bowled out for 191 for 9 in 42.2 overs before rain interrupted play. The match was eventually called off, and Bangladesh were declared winners by 86 runs under the DLS method.
