Bangladesh Unveils ODI Squad for Home Series Against Pakistan
Bangladesh has officially announced its squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, set to commence in Dhaka. This series marks Bangladesh's first international cricket engagement since their withdrawal from the T20 World Cup, signaling a return to competitive action on home soil.
Series Schedule and Venue Details
The ODI series will kick off on March 11, with all matches scheduled at the iconic Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The subsequent matches are slated for March 13 and March 15, promising an intense cricketing showdown between the two Asian rivals.
Squad Composition: Key Returns and Omissions
The selection panel, led by chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain, has made several notable decisions in assembling the 15-member squad. Afif Hossain makes a significant return to the ODI setup for the first time since December 2024, bringing his experience and current form to the team. Mahidul Islam has been retained from the squad that faced West Indies in October 2025, offering him a platform to showcase his potential.
Despite a recent run of low scores, Litton Das has been included in the squad. Gazi Ashraf Hossain addressed this selection, stating, "There may be questions about Litton Das's recent ODI form, but he has been working closely with the coaches on his game. We believe he can soon produce his best in this format and are considering him as an option to strengthen the middle order."
However, the squad sees the omission of players such as Nurul Hasan, Jaker Ali Anik, and Shamim Hossain. Additionally, Hasan Mahmud (tennis elbow) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (back injury) remain unavailable due to injuries, though both are expected to recover by the end of the month.
Recent Form and Context
Bangladesh last played an ODI series at home against West Indies in Mirpur, securing a 2-1 victory in that three-match contest. This upcoming series against Pakistan provides an opportunity for the team to build on that success and test their mettle against a strong opponent.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain further elaborated on the selections, noting, "(Afif) brings valuable experience and is currently appears to be in fine touch. Mahidul Islam has been retained and this is a good opportunity for him to fulfil the potential he has shown."
