Bangladesh Cricket Board Crisis Deepens with Multiple Resignations
The crisis within the Bangladesh Cricket Board has intensified significantly, with multiple resignations from its board of directors occurring even before completing six months in office. This development raises serious questions about the stability and future of the current administration, casting a shadow over Bangladesh cricket governance.
Widespread Resignations Create Uncertainty
Seven out of twenty-five directors have already stepped down from their positions, including four who resigned immediately following Saturday's board meeting. The exits have created substantial uncertainty around the future direction of the current administration and its ability to function effectively. The four directors who resigned on April 4 are Saniyan Taneem, Mehrab Alam, Faiazur Rahman, and Manjurul Alam.
President Aminul Islam Refuses to Step Down
Despite the escalating crisis, BCB president Aminul Islam declared on Sunday that he will not resign from his position. His remarks came as an investigation into alleged malpractice and abuse of power during last year's election has submitted its report to the Bangladesh government. The board is facing mounting pressure from the sports ministry, which has questioned the validity of the election process.
"I will sit in my chair, what else can I do? I will be the last person to go," Aminul told Jamuna TV on Saturday. "I have a very good, dedicated and honest team in the BCB. I want to serve Bangladesh cricket with this team."
External Pressure and Allegations
The board faces multiple challenges beyond the resignations, including Bangladesh's absence from the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and persistent allegations of political interference and favoritism within the BCB structure. Aminul addressed these concerns directly, stating that external forces have consistently disrupted the board's operations.
"We could not work with freedom for one day as an external force was always disturbing us and still doing that," Aminul explained. "Our cricket is stagnant and I have said a lot of times that an external force is disturbing us and because of that the pace of our cricket has slowed down."
Investigation Committee and Election Controversy
Aminul revealed that he could not appear before the investigation committee due to scheduling conflicts and instead submitted a written response. "I did not face the committee. I was busy in two separate meetings, so the dates clashed with their schedule for me. I gave them my reply in writing," he stated.
The president defended his limited involvement in the election process, explaining that he was only involved in one specific area currently under investigation. "I was not involved with anything in the board elections. I was involved in one area, which is now under investigation," he clarified.
Background and Previous Allegations
Aminul was appointed BCB president in May 2025 after replacing Faruque Ahmed as the government-endorsed director on the board. He later contested the elections in October and was elected president. The current crisis follows previous allegations made by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who accused Aminul of malpractice and abuse of power before withdrawing from the election race.
The situation continues to develop as the Bangladesh Cricket Board navigates internal turmoil, external pressure, and ongoing investigations that threaten to further destabilize cricket administration in the country.
