Rajasthan Royals' young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has shed light on his specific role within the team for the ongoing IPL season. In a recent interaction, Jurel stated that he is meant to keep the ship steady, highlighting his responsibility to anchor the innings and provide stability in the middle order.
Jurel's Clarity on Role
Jurel emphasized that the team management has given him a clear role, which is to ensure that the innings does not collapse in the middle overs. He said, "I am meant to keep the ship steady. My role is to ensure that we don't lose quick wickets and build partnerships." The 24-year-old has been a consistent performer for the Royals, often coming in at crucial junctures.
Performance in IPL 2026
In the current season, Jurel has scored 245 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40.83, with a strike rate of 135.36. He has also effected 12 dismissals behind the stumps. His ability to rotate strike and accelerate when needed has made him a valuable asset for the team.
Jurel further added that he enjoys the responsibility and looks to learn from senior players in the squad. "I always try to absorb as much as I can from the experienced guys. It helps me improve my game," he said.
With Rajasthan Royals currently placed third in the points table, Jurel's role as the steady hand will be crucial in the playoffs.
