Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill expressed his disappointment after his team's loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, stating that a higher total would have made the contest more competitive.
Gill's Post-Match Reflections
Speaking after the match, Gill said, "I think it would've been a good match had we gotten close to 180-190." The GT skipper acknowledged that their batting performance fell short of expectations, leaving them with a below-par total that RCB chased down with relative ease.
Gill highlighted that the pitch offered assistance to the bowlers early on, but the team failed to capitalize on the conditions. "We lost wickets at crucial intervals, and that set us back. We needed a partnership to build momentum, but it didn't happen," he added.
Bowling Efforts and Missed Opportunities
The GT captain also praised his bowlers for their efforts but admitted that defending a low total was always going to be challenging. "The bowlers did a decent job, but when you have a small total on the board, the pressure is always on the bowling side. We needed early wickets, but RCB's batters played well," Gill remarked.
Gill credited RCB for their clinical performance, particularly their batting lineup, which chased down the target with overs to spare. "They deserved to win. They played better cricket than us on the day," he conceded.
Looking Ahead
Despite the defeat, Gill remained optimistic about the future. "This is a learning experience for us. We have a young team, and we will come back stronger next season. The IPL is a tough tournament, and every game teaches you something new," he said.
The GT skipper also thanked the fans for their unwavering support throughout the tournament. "Our fans have been amazing. They travel with us, cheer for us, and that gives us a lot of energy. We are grateful for their support," Gill concluded.
The loss marked the end of a successful campaign for GT, who finished as runners-up in the IPL. The team will now look to regroup and prepare for the next season, with Gill expected to continue leading the side.
