Germany finally have a reason to feel optimistic at the FIFA World Cup 2026, and Kai Havertz is a major reason why. A day after Germany's dominant 7-1 victory over Curaçao, attention has shifted toward what the performance could mean for the team's campaign and Havertz's growing role in it.
The Germany forward's two-goal display not only helped his side begin the tournament in style but also pushed him into the early Golden Boot race. After disappointing World Cup exits in Russia and Qatar, Germany suddenly look like a team playing with belief again.
Kai Havertz Joins Golden Boot Leaders After Statement Win
Havertz delivered one of the standout performances of the opening round, scoring twice as Germany overwhelmed Curaçao in Houston. While the scoreline reflected Germany's attacking strength, Havertz's sharp movement and confidence in front of goal quickly became one of the biggest talking points.
Germany did not have everything their own way at the start after Curaçao briefly leveled the score. But Julian Nagelsmann's side regained control before halftime and never looked back. Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav also added goals as Germany opened their campaign with authority.
The result lifted Havertz alongside USA striker Folarin Balogun and Sweden midfielder Yasin Ayari in the early Golden Boot standings, with all three players scoring two goals in their opening matches.
Germany Fans Believe Havertz Is Proving Critics Wrong
Havertz's display also reopened discussions about his quality, especially among fans who believe the Germany forward often shines brighter on the international stage.
"Every international tournament Kai Havertz reminds people he's actually a top player. Then club football starts and the debates begin all over again," one fan wrote on social media after the match.
Another supporter praised Havertz's confidence and form, writing, "This is what happens when you rescue a world-class talent from a mid-table institution and give him a real manager. The Chelsea tax is officially lifted. He looks so much happier playing actual football."
Some fans were simply excited to see the Germany star carrying his momentum into the tournament. "Waka Waka! King Kai carrying his club form straight onto the biggest international stage. We are cooking this summer!" another fan posted.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann also welcomed the confidence boost after the win. "We really needed this convincing win," Nagelsmann said. "We needed this self-confidence. It was there but it definitely grew."
Germany will next face Ivory Coast, where Havertz will have another opportunity to build momentum and strengthen his early Golden Boot challenge.
