Hyderabad police in Saifabad resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse supporters of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who were creating a disturbance near the Secretariat after the team's victory in the IPL final on Sunday night. Meanwhile, Kukatpally police filed a case against 17 youngsters for causing nuisance on the road while in an inebriated condition.
Videos Show Fans Celebrating Recklessly
A series of videos circulating online showed a large number of fans creating chaos near the Secretariat, leading to a massive traffic jam. Some clips captured fans bursting firecrackers, damaging public property, and moving barricades near the Secretariat. Others showed fans climbing onto vehicles and celebrating, disrupting regular traffic movement for hours.
Saifabad inspector A Seethaiah told TOI, "We had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. We have, however, not taken anyone into preventive custody or booked any cases so far."
Disorderly Conduct During Celebrations
Among the large gathering, some fans were seen bursting crackers in the middle of the road, while a few shirtless individuals were riding bikes and honking continuously. A group of people began damaging barricades set up by the police on the median, and others were seen doing push-ups on the road. Upon learning about the large and frenzied gathering causing traffic jams around the Secretariat, police rushed to the spot and began dispersing the crowd using a mild lathi-charge. It took more than an hour for normalcy to be restored.
Similar Incidents in Other Areas
Similar celebrations took place in Kukatpally and Ameerpet. In Kukatpally, local police apprehended 17 youngsters for unruly behavior on the road while under the influence of alcohol. They were made to undergo a breath analyzer test, and all 17 tested positive. A case was registered against them.
