ICC Fines Pakistan for Over Rate Offence
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a penalty on the Pakistan women's cricket team following their defeat to India in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026. The sanction was applied for maintaining a slow over rate during the group stage match.
Details of the Penalty
According to an official ICC release, Pakistan was found to be two overs short of the required rate after time allowances were considered. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20% of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. Consequently, the entire team was fined 40% of their match fee, while captain Nida Dar received a 20% deduction from her match fee.
The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Kim Cotton, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth official Sarah Dambanevana. Pakistan captain Nida Dar pleaded guilty to the offence, accepting the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Match Recap
India registered a comprehensive victory over Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup, winning by 52 runs. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 155 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan could only manage 103 runs for 7 wickets, falling short by a significant margin. The win strengthened India's position in the tournament standings.
The ICC's decision underscores its commitment to maintaining the pace of play in international cricket. Slow over rates have been a persistent issue, and the governing body has been strict in enforcing penalties to ensure the game progresses smoothly.
