Nagpur: The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur (IIIT Nagpur), has achieved remarkable success in its placement drive for the 2024-25 academic session. The BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch recorded a perfect 100% placement rate, with the highest annual package reaching Rs 60 lakh. According to official data released by the institute, the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) branch achieved a 97% placement rate, with the top offer at Rs 42.26 lakh per annum.
Strong Average Salary Packages
The premier institution also reported robust average salary packages. CSE students secured an average annual salary of Rs 15.41 lakh, while ECE students averaged Rs 14.19 lakh. These figures underscore the institute's growing reputation in the job market.
Historical Context and RTI Data
IIIT Nagpur was approved by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in May 2015. Initially operating from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) campus, it later moved to its permanent 100-acre campus in Waranga, near Nagpur. Data obtained through an RTI application filed by activist Sanjay Thul revealed that during the 2023-24 session, placement rates were 91.09% for CSE and 89% for ECE. The highest packages that year were Rs 47 lakh for CSE and Rs 20 lakh for ECE.
Current Placement Season Trends
The ongoing 2025-26 placement season has shown encouraging trends. So far, 30.25% of CSE students and 15.38% of ECE students have secured placements. The highest package offered in the current cycle reached Rs 32.6 lakh for CSE students and Rs 80 lakh for ECE students. The average ECE salary package has also increased to Rs 19.11 lakh.
Academic Expansion and Faculty Strength
The institute has simultaneously focused on academic expansion. For the 2025-26 academic year, 619 students took admission against the approved intake of 648 seats. Faculty vacancies have reduced significantly. While 18 out of 53 sanctioned teaching posts were vacant in 2023-24, the number of vacancies has now declined to eight. Additionally, the Board of Governors has approved 47 new faculty positions, with recruitment expected after final approvals from the Union Finance Department and Ministry of Education.
This progress reflects IIIT Nagpur's commitment to providing quality education and excellent placement opportunities for its students.
