India-Born Cricketer Dropped as New Zealand Announces Central Contracts
India-Born Cricketer Dropped from NZ Central Contracts

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced its central contracts for the 2026-27 season, with notable inclusions and exclusions. Among the key changes, an India-born cricketer has been dropped from the list, while two players have made a return to the contracted squad.

Key Changes in the Contract List

The central contracts list, which covers the period from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, includes a total of 20 players. The most significant omission is that of all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who was born in India but represents New Zealand. Ravindra, who made his international debut in 2021, has been left out after a lean patch in recent months. He played 12 ODIs and 8 T20Is in the past year, scoring 245 runs and taking 5 wickets.

Two players who have been reinstated are fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and batsman Devon Conway. Ferguson, who missed out last season due to injury, returns after a strong domestic season where he took 18 wickets in the Super Smash. Conway, who was dropped earlier, has been rewarded for his consistent performances in international cricket, including a century in the recent Test series against England.

Full Contracted Players List

The full list of centrally contracted players for 2026-27 includes: Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tom Blundell, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, and Will Young.

NZC chief executive David White said, "We are pleased with the balance of the squad. The return of Lockie and Devon strengthens our options across formats. We thank Rachin for his contributions and expect him to work hard to regain his spot."

Background on Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra, 26, was born in Wellington to Indian parents who migrated from Bangalore. He made his international debut in 2021 and has played 32 ODIs and 24 T20Is, scoring 1,045 runs and taking 28 wickets. His omission comes as a surprise to many, given his potential, but selectors felt the need for more consistency.
