The Kangra district hosted its first-ever Roller Skating Championship 2026, showcasing the remarkable talent of young athletes. The event saw participation from children representing over 10 schools, competing in the 200-metre and 400-metre races across various categories.
Dedicated Efforts of Kangra Skating Club
For nearly eight years, the Kangra Skating Club has been tirelessly nurturing local talent. Behind this initiative is a dedicated team comprising Sumit, Anil, Akhil, Raj Pal, Abhishek, Kapil, and Shubham. Their efforts have provided a platform for young skaters to demonstrate their skills and passion for the sport.
Chief Guest Applauds Initiative
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma lauded the Kangra Skating Club for guiding local children towards a brighter future through sports. He observed that such initiatives not only cultivate talent but also promote a healthy lifestyle and help keep youngsters away from substance abuse. On the occasion, he contributed Rs 21,000 towards the construction of a skating ground.
Skating Federation Director Vineet Verma also highlighted the federation’s ongoing activities and emphasized the importance of such events in fostering sportsmanship and physical fitness among the youth.
Call for Official Recognition
Despite the growing popularity of roller skating and the impressive talent emerging from the district, the sport is yet to receive official recognition in Himachal Pradesh. The organisers appealed to the state government to grant formal recognition and develop a dedicated roller-skating track. They expressed hope that, with proper infrastructure and support, Himachal’s young skaters would bring laurels to the state.
The championship not only provided a competitive platform but also highlighted the need for investment in sports infrastructure to nurture future champions. The event concluded on a positive note, with participants and organisers optimistic about the future of roller skating in the region.
