KL Rahul has etched his name in the Indian Premier League record books by becoming the first player to aggregate over 1,000 runs for three different franchises. The stylish right-handed batsman achieved this milestone during the ongoing IPL 2025 season while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Record-Breaking Feat
Rahul, who previously represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS), crossed the 1,000-run mark for LSG in a recent match. He had already accomplished this feat for RCB and PBKS earlier in his career. No other player in IPL history has managed to score 1,000 or more runs for three separate teams.
Journey Across Franchises
- Royal Challengers Bangalore (2013-2016): Rahul started his IPL career with RCB, where he amassed 1,158 runs in 36 matches at a strike rate of 138.34.
- Punjab Kings (2018-2021): After a stint with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, Rahul joined PBKS and scored 2,548 runs in 55 matches, including two centuries.
- Lucknow Super Giants (2022-present): As the captain of LSG, Rahul has been prolific, scoring over 1,000 runs and leading the team to the playoffs in the first two seasons.
Consistency and Class
Rahul's consistency across different teams and conditions underscores his class as a top-order batsman. His ability to adapt to various roles—whether as an opener or a middle-order finisher—has made him one of the most valuable players in the league. “It’s a special feeling to achieve this milestone,” Rahul said after the match. “Every team has given me a wonderful platform, and I’m grateful for the opportunities.”
With 4,000+ runs in the IPL, Rahul continues to be a key figure in the tournament. His record is a testament to his longevity and skill in the shortest format of the game.
