Virat Kohli Celebrates India's Dominant T20 World Cup Triumph
Former captain Virat Kohli has showered praise on the Indian national cricket team following their emphatic victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final. Kohli took to social media to congratulate the side after they successfully defended their title with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Kohli's Heartfelt Tribute to the Champions
In a passionate post, Kohli wrote, "Champions! Phenomenal win for Team India in Ahmedabad. Absolutely no match for the explosive cricket played by us throughout the tournament. Brilliant character shown by the boys to keep fighting in tough situations and become world champions once again. Congratulations to all the players and all the members of the management for achieving this feat. Jai Hind." His message highlighted the team's resilience and fearless approach, which proved decisive in their campaign.
Record-Breaking Batting Display in the Final
India produced a batting masterclass to overwhelm New Zealand, posting a mammoth 255 for five after being asked to bat first. This total stands as the highest ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final, showcasing India's aggressive intent from the outset.
Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89, while Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 and Ishan Kishan struck a rapid 54. The top order unleashed a relentless six-hitting spree, with Samson and Abhishek setting the tone through a breathtaking 98-run opening partnership in just 7.1 overs.
India crossed the 200-run mark in only 15 overs as the Kiwi attack struggled to contain the onslaught. Although New Zealand briefly pulled things back when James Neesham dismissed Samson, Kishan, and captain Suryakumar Yadav in the same over, Shivam Dube provided a strong finish with an unbeaten 26, including 24 runs in the final over to push India to the record total.
Bowling Brilliance Seals Historic Victory
Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand faltered under scoreboard pressure. Their hopes faded quickly after early wickets of Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips.
Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India's bowling effort with a brilliant spell of 4 for 15, while Axar Patel picked up three wickets to dismantle the Kiwi batting line-up. Despite a fighting 52 off 26 balls from Tim Seifert, New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
This victory not only sealed a memorable win but also etched India's name in history as the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title, a testament to their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
