Kolkata: Services on the Blue Line (north-south corridor) of the Kolkata Metro were disrupted for approximately one hour on Monday following a suicide attempt at Rabindra Sarobar station. The incident caused significant inconvenience to commuters during the peak evening hours.
Incident Details
The incident occurred at 4:10 pm on the tracks designated for Shahid Khudiram-bound trains. Immediately after the suicide bid, the power supply to the affected section was suspended to facilitate rescue operations. A Metro Railway spokesperson confirmed that normal services resumed at 5:15 pm, after a delay of over an hour.
Impact on Commuters
The disruption left many passengers stranded, forcing them to rely on alternative modes of transport. Sudakshina Chatterjee, an executive at a private firm, expressed her frustration, stating, "People like us were once again at the mercy of app cabs that overcharged. I paid Rs 450 to travel from Park Street to Kudghat." Such complaints highlight the challenges faced by daily commuters in the city when public transport is disrupted.
This incident adds to the list of recent disruptions on the Kolkata Metro, which serves as a vital lifeline for millions of residents. Authorities are yet to release further details about the individual involved in the suicide attempt.
