Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka expressed his delight on Tuesday after pacer Prince Yadav earned his first call-up to the Indian cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, both scheduled to be played in India in June.
Prince Yadav's IPL Performance Leads to Selection
Prince Yadav, who has taken 16 wickets for LSG in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, impressed selectors with his pace and accuracy. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan.
Following the squad announcement, Goenka took to social media platform X to praise the young fast bowler. "Delighted to see Prince Yadav earn his maiden ODI call-up for India. His rise this IPL season has been a joy to witness," Goenka wrote. He added, "He has the heart, the hunger, and the fearlessness to take on the best. This is just the beginning. Congratulations, Prince. I'm proud of you, and so is LSG. Make India proud."
India's Series Against Afghanistan
India will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 6, followed by a three-match ODI series from June 14 to June 20. Shubman Gill has been appointed captain for both formats. KL Rahul will serve as vice-captain in the Test side, replacing Rishabh Pant, while Shreyas Iyer takes on the vice-captaincy role in the ODI team.
Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been rested for the Test match. New faces in the Test squad include Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey. The squad was selected by the Men's Selection Committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, along with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh, and Pragyan Ojha, in the presence of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
ODI Squad Composition
The ODI squad sees the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the top order. Ishan Kishan has been included as the second wicketkeeper. The all-rounders in the squad are Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar. The spin attack will be led by Kuldeep Yadav, while the pace unit features Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, and Gurnoor Brar.
