A man who drove his car at 200 kilometers per hour on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad and uploaded a video of the reckless act on social media has been arrested by the Narsingi police. The incident, which occurred on May 10, involved the accused driving from the Narsingi ORR stretch towards the TG Police Academy while recording the speedometer reading. He later posted the video on his social media account.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the video shows the accused attempting to match the speed of a sports car that was also traveling at high speed on the ORR. The footage, released by the police, clearly displays the speedometer reaching 200 kmph. The act not only endangered the driver's life but also posed a serious threat to other commuters on the road.
Police Action
After the video surfaced on social media, a road patrolling officer filed a complaint at the Narsingi police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation to track down the accused. The suspect was identified as Yashwanth Reddy, a resident of Puppalaguda.
During questioning, Reddy reportedly told the police that he drove at such high speed to check the vehicle's condition. However, the police found his explanation unsatisfactory and proceeded with legal action.
Legal Charges
Reddy was booked under Section 125 (an act endangering life or personal safety of others) and Section 281 (rash driving on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections carry significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines, to deter such dangerous behavior.
The police have urged citizens to refrain from engaging in reckless driving and warned that strict action will be taken against those who endanger public safety. They also emphasized the importance of responsible social media usage, as uploading such content can lead to legal consequences.
This incident highlights the dangers of overspeeding and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules on highways. The ORR, which is designed for safe driving at prescribed speed limits, becomes a death trap when drivers ignore regulations. The police are continuing their investigation and have advised the public to report any similar incidents.
