A tragic incident unfolded in the Brahmapura area of Muzaffarpur district on Monday morning when the body of a 15-year-old girl was recovered from a pond located behind a local temple. The family of the deceased has alleged that the incident is linked to a love affair.
Victim Identification
The deceased has been identified as Pallavi Kumari, daughter of Dashrath Thakur. She was a resident of the Lakshmi Chowk area.
Police Response
Upon receiving information about the recovery, a police team immediately reached the spot. The family was informed, and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to conduct an on-site investigation. The body was subsequently sent to the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for postmortem examination.
SDPO Town-II, Binita Sinha, also arrived at the scene to oversee the proceedings as a large crowd of local residents had gathered. According to the SDPO, the family informed the police that the incident appears to be connected to a love affair. The girl reportedly wanted to marry a boy, but her family objected to the relationship.
Sequence of Events
On the night of April 26, Pallavi was at her parents' residence near Lakshmi Chowk. Her parents confiscated her mobile phone because of the ongoing dispute over the relationship, which left her visibly distressed. A few days prior, the girl had gone to the boy's residence, but she was returned to her family by the boy's side. She remained at home until the night of the incident.
Prima facie, it appears that the girl, distressed over her parents confiscating her phone and their objections to the relationship, came to the pond and died by suicide. The exact cause of death will be determined after the medical report is received, the SDPO added.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are conducting further investigations and are also examining whether there are any other underlying reasons behind the incident. Authorities are reviewing all aspects to ensure a thorough inquiry.
