Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday affirmed the state government's commitment to transforming the Sambalpur football academy into a world-class sports hub. During a day-long visit to the district, Majhi reviewed the existing facilities and announced a sanctioned fund of Rs 15 crore to upgrade infrastructure.
CM's Visit and Grass-Seeding Ceremony
Majhi visited the academy and symbolically sowed grass seeds on one of the grounds, marking the beginning of development work. He praised the institution for carving a distinct place in Odisha's sporting landscape and contributing significantly to nurturing talent that has achieved national-level recognition.
Academy's Legacy Since 2007
Highlighting the academy's trajectory since its inception in 2007 under the leadership of MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, the CM said it has built a strong legacy. The academy already boasts facilities such as a gymnasium, swimming pool, and hostel.
Infrastructure Upgrades
Officials stated that the Rs 15 crore fund will be used to develop three FIFA-standard football grounds and two futsal courts. These facilities will enable year-round training, including during the monsoon season.
CM Trophy Tournament and Talent Identification
Majhi also mentioned that the government organizes the annual CM Trophy Football Tournament, which will help identify promising under-14 players for advanced training at the academy. He expressed confidence in the academy's future and assured all support to develop it into a centre of excellence and a model football academy in the country.
Other Engagements
Later, Majhi attended the concluding ceremony of an RSS event at Sason and participated as chief guest in the All India Sambalpur Cup Kabaddi Tournament in the city.
