Panaji: More than two lakh people are expected to participate in the International Yoga Day programme across 1,500 centres, said chief minister Pramod Sawant. The programme will commence at 6am and will continue till 8am. By 12.30pm, the government will know the number of participants, said Sawant. He further urged citizens to participate in large numbers so that Goa can set a record.
Main Event at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium
The main programme will be held at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the public at 6.30am, he said. The chief minister emphasized that participation in Yoga Day is compulsory for government employees, teachers, and students. “Even though schools, colleges, and offices will be closed on Sunday, students, teachers, and government employees should participate by attending the programme at a centre near their residence,” he said.
Call for Record Participation
Sawant expressed confidence that Goa can achieve a record turnout if everyone joins. He highlighted the importance of yoga for physical and mental well-being and urged all residents to take part. The state has set up 1,500 centres across all districts to accommodate the expected crowd.
