Pakistan Shaheens Triumph in Nail-Biting Asia Cup Final
In a match that will be remembered for its sheer drama and nerve-wracking finish, the Pakistan Shaheens (Pakistan A) were crowned champions of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 on Sunday. The title was sealed in a heart-stopping Super Over against a resilient Bangladesh A side, which had staged an unbelievable comeback to push the final into a tie.
The Collapse and The Incredible Fightback
Batting first, the Pakistan Shaheens set a competitive total of 125 runs for Bangladesh A to chase. The Bangladeshi innings got off to a disastrous start, crumbling to a precarious 53 for 7 at one stage. The situation looked utterly hopeless for Bangladesh A as they stumbled to 99 for 9 by the end of the 18th over, needing 27 runs from the last 12 balls with only one wicket in hand.
What followed was a spectacular display of lower-order hitting. The 19th over, bowled by Pakistan's Shahid Aziz, proved to be the turning point as Bangladesh's No. 10 and No. 11 batsmen launched a stunning assault, smashing three sixes to miraculously tie the scores and force the game into a Super Over.
Super Over Drama and Pakistan's Clinical Finish
Bangladesh A, who had previously defeated India A in a Super Over, batted first in the decider. However, their luck finally ran out in the final. They could only manage to score six runs before losing both their wickets in just three deliveries. A significant portion of their total came from a wide ball that raced to the boundary.
In reply, the Pakistan Shaheens showed immense composure, chasing down the modest target of seven runs in just four balls to lift the Asia Cup Rising Stars trophy once again.
Post-Match Accolades and Heroic Revelation
Ahmed Daniyal, the bowler entrusted with the crucial final over and the Super Over, was deservedly named the Player of the Match. He revealed his plan and determination in the post-match presentation. "I had a plan and I was able to execute it well," Daniyal stated. He admitted to a faulty second delivery but adjusted his length to skid the ball through and take a vital wicket.
In a testament to his commitment, Daniyal also disclosed that he was bowling with a slight injury towards the end of the game. "Injury doesn't matter, we played well as a team and we have to perform. All the credit goes to the players as well. We trusted each other and that helped us all," he said, highlighting the team's spirit.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's Maaz Sadaqat was honoured as the Player of the Series for his consistent performances throughout the tournament.
