A Celebration of National Pride
In a heartwarming display of national recognition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the victorious Indian Blind Women's cricket team in New Delhi on Thursday. This special meeting came just days after the team created history by winning the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup in Colombo.
The atmosphere turned celebratory as the players presented PM Modi with an autographed cricket bat, while the Prime Minister reciprocated by signing a cricket ball for the squad. This exchange symbolized the nation's appreciation for their extraordinary accomplishment.
Dominant Performance in World Cup
The Indian team displayed absolute dominance throughout the six-nation tournament, maintaining an unbeaten record from start to finish. Their journey to the championship included impressive victories against Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, and Nepal - whom they defeated twice during the competition.
The final match saw India claim a commanding seven-wicket victory over Nepal, showcasing their superior skills and determination. This consistent performance highlighted the team's technical excellence and mental strength against international competitors.
National Recognition and Rewards
Prime Minister Modi, who had previously applauded the team's achievement on social media platform X, reiterated his admiration during the personal interaction. "Congratulations to the Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup!" he wrote.
The Prime Minister emphasized that their unbeaten record made the victory even more commendable, calling it a "shining example of hard work, teamwork and determination" that would inspire generations of young girls across India.
Adding to the celebrations, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced significant financial rewards for the team members. Players from Karnataka will receive Rs 10 lakh each along with a government job, while players from other states will be awarded Rs 2 lakh each.
This triumph comes during a successful period for Indian women's cricket, following the senior team's maiden ODI World Cup victory earlier in the month. The back-to-back achievements signal a promising future for women's sports in the country.
