Prayagraj Hottest in India at 45°C for Second Day

Prayagraj: Despite intermittent cloud cover and gusty winds, Prayagraj continued to swelter under intense heat on Wednesday, emerging as the hottest place in the country and Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive day. The maximum temperature in the Sangam City soared to 45 degrees Celsius, 6 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 29.5 degrees Celsius.

Heatwave Striking

What made the heatwave even more striking was the fact that Prayagraj outpaced all other districts in the state by a considerable margin. Even Banda, traditionally among the hottest places in Uttar Pradesh, recorded a maximum temperature of only 41 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees lower than Prayagraj.

Previous Day Conditions

The city witnessed similar conditions on Tuesday when it recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, which was 5.1 degrees above normal. According to weather data, Prayagraj was not only the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday but also among the hottest in the country. Interestingly, the district also recorded 4.6 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, though the showers failed to provide any relief.

Weather Warning

On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for dust storms and rain in parts of the district. The forecast appeared likely to materialise during the afternoon as thick clouds dominated the skyline and strong winds swept across several localities. However, the rain largely remained confined to isolated pockets, leaving most parts of the district dry and sweltering.

Humidity Aggravates Conditions

The weather conditions were further aggravated by high humidity levels. Relative humidity fluctuated between 89% and 46% during the day, creating intensely sultry conditions. Residents experienced discomfort as the combination of heat and moisture pushed the heat index even higher, making outdoor activities particularly exhausting.

Meteorologist Insights

Meteorologists said the persistence of moisture-laden winds, coupled with soaring daytime temperatures, has contributed to the uncomfortable weather pattern.
