A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus lost control and veered off the Nagar-Kalyan highway at Gunjalwadi village in Junnar taluka, approximately 90 kilometers from Pune. The bus driver and a passenger lost their lives, while 17 others sustained injuries.
Details of the Incident
The bus was traveling from Ahilyanagar to Bhiwandi. It departed from Ahilyanagar around 3:30 PM and reached Gunjalwadi at about 6:30 PM. According to police reports, it was drizzling at the time. A passenger who filed a complaint stated that the driver was driving at high speed and overtaking other vehicles. While attempting to avoid a collision, the driver lost control, causing the bus to flip twice before falling into a ditch.
Victims and Rescue Operation
The deceased have been identified as bus driver Mohammed Salim Mohammed Yusuf (40), a resident of Amravati, and passenger Prashant Honeshete (27) from Nanded. The injured passengers were rushed to a private hospital in Ale Phata. Local residents quickly arrived at the scene and helped rescue those trapped inside the bus.
Legal Action
The Ale Phata police have registered a case of causing death by negligence. An officer stated, "The injured passengers were sent to a private hospital. We have registered a case of causing death by negligence in this regard." The bus flipped twice and fell into a ditch along the highway.
