Shimla: A tragic accident in the Manikaran Valley of Kullu district on Friday claimed the lives of a 43-year-old man from Punjab and his 19-year-old daughter, while three other family members sustained injuries. The incident occurred when their car skidded off the road and plunged nearly 100 feet down a slope.
Accident Details
The accident took place near Sarsari as the Punjab-registered vehicle was traveling from Manikaran to Manali. The car veered off the narrow road and came to a halt on the bank of the Parvati River. The deceased were identified as the driver, Parminder, and his daughter, Nidhi Diwan. Injured in the accident were Parminder's wife, Ritu (42), and their sons, Aditya Diwan (16) and Manav (5).
Rescue and Medical Response
Local residents were the first to reach the accident site and initiated rescue efforts. They pulled the occupants out of the mangled vehicle before emergency responders arrived. The injured family members were taken to a hospital in Bhuntar. From there, Aditya and Manav were referred to the Government Medical College in Nerchowk, while Ritu was shifted to the Regional Hospital in Kullu, according to police.
Police Statement
Police confirmed that Parminder and Nidhi died at the spot. The family hails from Rama Mandi in Punjab's Jalandhar district. While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, a police officer speculated that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle on the narrow road.
