Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially announced the replacement for injured Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The franchise has named uncapped Indian fast bowler Avinash Singh as Thushara's replacement. Thushara was ruled out due to a recurring hamstring injury that has kept him away from competitive cricket for several months.
RCB's New Signing
Avinash Singh, a 24-year-old right-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh, has been picked up by RCB at his base price of INR 20 lakh. Singh has been impressive in domestic cricket, picking up 15 wickets in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and showcasing his ability to bowl at speeds exceeding 140 km/h. RCB's director of cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed confidence in Singh's potential, stating that he adds depth to the bowling attack.
CSK Also Announce New Player
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have also revealed a new player ahead of IPL 2026. The franchise has signed South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira as a replacement for the injured Devon Conway. Ferreira, 27, is known for his explosive batting in the middle order and handy off-spin. He has represented South Africa in T20Is and has a strike rate of over 150 in T20 cricket. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that Ferreira's versatility makes him a valuable addition to the squad.
Impact on Team Composition
RCB's bowling unit, which struggled in the previous season, will look to Avinash Singh to provide early breakthroughs. The team already has a strong pace attack with Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood, and Singh's inclusion adds variety. For CSK, Ferreira's arrival strengthens their batting depth, especially in the absence of Conway who is recovering from a finger injury. The franchise has historically relied on all-rounders to maintain balance, and Ferreira fits that mold perfectly.
IPL 2026 Season Outlook
The IPL 2026 season is set to begin in March, with all teams finalizing their squads. RCB, who have never won the title, will be eager to break the jinx with a well-rounded team. CSK, the defending champions, aim to retain their crown with a mix of experienced players and young talent. Both teams have made strategic replacements to cover key injuries, and fans will be keen to see how the new players perform under pressure.
In other news, several franchises are still in the process of finalizing their rosters, with the auction for remaining slots expected soon. The upcoming season promises to be exciting, with intense competition among the eight teams.
