Security will be significantly enhanced at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium during the final day of the Ranji Trophy Group D match between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. This decision comes in response to a major car explosion that occurred near the Red Fort, located just kilometers from the cricket venue.

Enhanced Security Measures for Cricket Match

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed additional security arrangements for the crucial domestic cricket encounter. Ashok Sharma, DDCA secretary, stated that he would contact Delhi Police authorities to request additional security deployment outside the stadium premises.

"Security to be beefed up near Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (renamed Arun Jaitley Stadium) on the final day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir," Sharma informed PTI on Monday.

Details of the Red Fort Explosion

The tragic incident unfolded during a busy evening near one of Delhi's most iconic landmarks. Around 7 pm on Monday, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort, resulting in significant casualties and damage.

Eight people lost their lives in the explosion, while twenty-four individuals sustained injuries. The blast injured several pedestrians and damaged multiple vehicles in the vicinity. The area was crowded with people at the time of the incident, amplifying the impact of the explosion.

Government Response and Investigation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been briefed about the explosion, with Home Minister Amit Shah providing updates about the situation. Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the blast, which remains undetermined at this stage.

Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that teams from Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving information about the blast. He emphasized that authorities are exploring all possibilities regarding the incident's cause.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences, stating: "Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest. Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji and other officials."

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her sympathies: "I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the blast that has taken place in Delhi. I pray for quick recovery of those injured."
