Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill admitted that a better performance during the powerplay overs could have made the daunting target of 200 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) more achievable. Speaking after GT's heavy defeat, Gill analyzed the team's batting effort and highlighted the early phase as a decisive factor.
Powerplay Struggles
GT managed only 32 runs in the first six overs, losing two wickets in the process. Gill emphasized that the slow start put immense pressure on the middle order. "We knew the target was challenging, but a good powerplay could have made it chasable. We lost too many wickets early and couldn't build momentum," he said.
RCB's Dominance
RCB posted a formidable 199/6, powered by Virat Kohli's 70 off 44 balls and a blistering 50 from Glenn Maxwell. GT's bowling unit struggled to contain the scoring rate, especially in the death overs. Gill praised RCB's batting depth but remained optimistic about GT's chances in upcoming matches.
Bowling Concerns
GT's bowlers, led by Rashid Khan (2/35), had moments of success but failed to maintain consistency. "We bowled well in patches but gave away too many runs in the middle overs. We need to work on our death bowling," Gill added.
Road Ahead
Despite the loss, Gill urged his team to stay positive. "We will learn from this defeat. The tournament is long, and we have the quality to bounce back. We need to execute our plans better in the next game," he concluded.
