Indian opener Shubman Gill continued his remarkable run of form by smashing a stellar century against Afghanistan in the second ODI of the three-match series. The 25-year-old right-hander scored 107 runs off 97 balls, studded with 12 fours and two sixes, to help India post a formidable total.
Gill joins elite company
With this century, Gill entered an elite list of Indian batsmen who have scored centuries in three consecutive ODI innings. He joins the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan in achieving this feat. Gill had previously scored centuries against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in his last two ODI innings.
Dominant performance
Gill's innings was a masterclass in pacing an ODI knock. He started cautiously, rotating the strike, and then accelerated brilliantly in the middle overs. His partnership with captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 82, laid the foundation for India's total of 338 for 4 in 50 overs.
The young batsman has been in sensational form across formats in 2025, amassing over 1,500 international runs. His consistency has made him a vital cog in India's batting lineup across all formats.
Afghanistan's response
In reply, Afghanistan struggled against the Indian bowling attack and were bowled out for 214 in 43.2 overs. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each, while pacer Mohammed Shami took two. India won the match by 124 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Gill was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant century. The third ODI is scheduled to be played in Chennai on June 10.
