Trichy: A 19-year-old college student died by suicide at her home in Trichy on Sunday night after being reprimanded by her parents for excessive use of her mobile phone.
Incident Details
Police identified the deceased as N Srina, 19, a resident of Woraiyur. She was a first-year BSc student at a private college near Chathiram bus stand. According to police, Srina's parents disapproved of her frequent mobile phone usage and had reprimanded her multiple times. On Sunday night, they scolded her again. Later that same night, she took her own life.
Police Investigation
Police recovered the body and sent it to Trichy MGMGH for postmortem examination. A case was registered on Monday under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for unnatural death, and an investigation is underway.
