Two Killed, 14 Injured in Ganga Expressway Pile-Up

A tragic multi-vehicle accident on the Ganga Expressway in Amroha claimed the lives of a 65-year-old man and his daughter from Mohali district, Punjab, on Sunday morning. The incident also left 14 people injured after a chain of collisions triggered by a stray dog.

Initial Collision and Fatalities

According to police, Lakshman Singh, a resident of Dhakoli village in Mohali, was returning home with his family after visiting Manona Dham in Bareilly. His 22-year-old daughter Ashu had been unwell, and the family had traveled to the shrine to pray for her recovery. Lakshman’s son Deepak was driving when a stray dog suddenly appeared on the road near the Ujhari-Burawali stretch of the expressway. In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Deepak lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

As locals rushed to rescue the occupants, a speeding tempo traveller carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh to Haridwar rammed into the overturned vehicle. Lakshman and Ashu died on the spot in the collision.

Injuries and Secondary Accidents

Seven other family members sustained grievous injuries: Lakshman’s wife Sarita, sons Rahul and Deepak, daughter Deepika, and her three minor children. They were referred to the district hospital. Additionally, four women from Ranapur village in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district, who were traveling in the tempo traveller, were also injured.

The crash triggered further incidents at the accident site during rescue operations. A car carrying a family from Bihar’s Motihari overturned after the driver applied sudden brakes near the scene, injuring Mohd Husain (45) and his daughter Nisha (20), who were traveling to Delhi. Shadab (34), a resident of Gangwar village in Amroha, was also injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while assisting in rescue efforts.

Police Statement

SHO (Saidnangali) Sanjay Pratap Singh said, “Two people from Punjab died on the spot, while 10 others sustained injuries. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and the injured are undergoing treatment.”

Authorities are investigating the sequence of events and have urged drivers to exercise caution on the expressway, especially during early morning hours when stray animals are more active.
