Woman, Son Killed in SUV Crash on Patna-Bakhtiyarpur Road

A tragic road accident on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway early Tuesday morning claimed the lives of a woman and her son, while leaving eight other family members injured. The incident occurred when a speeding SUV lost control and collided with a roadside tree near a hotel under Bakhtiyarpur police station limits in Patna's Barh subdivision.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Phulmati Devi (52) and her son Upendra Singh (34). The injured include Upendra's wife, his two children, and other relatives who were traveling in the vehicle. The driver also sustained injuries in the crash.

Accident Details

The family was returning to Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh after offering prayers at the famous Baidyanath Dham temple in Deoghar, Jharkhand. The accident took place around 4 am when the driver apparently dozed off, causing the SUV to veer off the road, hit the divider, and then crash into a tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was extensively damaged, trapping the occupants inside.

Rescue and Response

Locals rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise and helped rescue the trapped passengers. They immediately informed the police. Bakhtiyarpur police reached the scene and, with the assistance of residents, shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre in Bakhtiyarpur. After providing first aid, all the injured were referred to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital in Patna for advanced treatment.

Police Statement

Bakhtiyarpur police station incharge Devanand Sharma said, "The bodies have been sent to the subdivisional hospital in Barh for post-mortem examination. The forensic team was called to the spot. The injured have been sent to Patna for better treatment." He added that a total of eight people were traveling in the SUV from Deoghar to Kushinagar, all residents of Kushinagar. "It is suspected that the driver dozed off and lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and rammed into the divider and then a tree, causing extensive damage and trapping occupants inside," Sharma explained.

Investigation Underway

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The forensic team has examined the scene to gather evidence. The injured are receiving medical care, and updates on their condition are awaited.
